Simply Delicious Chocolate Sauce
This delicious chocolate sauce is great for dipping strawberries, drizzling on crepes, or adding to coffee for a mocha drink. Because the sauce isn’t prepared with high temperatures and doesn’t contain any waxy ingredients, the chocolate will remain soft and not harden completely.
Organic & Fair-Trade Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsweetened cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
1/2 cup powdered sugar (corn free)
3-4 heaping tablespoons coconut oil (4 tablespoons for dipping sauce, 3 tablespoons for drizzling sauce)
3-5 tablespoons unsweetened non-dairy milk from the carton (generally less milk is needed for dipping sauce, more for drizzling sauce)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions:
Melt the coconut oil in a small stainless steel pan on the lowest heat setting.
Add 3 tablespoons of coconut milk, starting with the lesser amount and adding more if needed.
When melted, gradually add cacao powder and powdered sugar, mixing well with a whisk. Be careful not to burn. Allow to cool in pan before using.
Yields enough sauce for approximately 1 pound of strawberries. Key tip: Make sure you wash and thoroughly dry your organic strawberries before dipping.
Store remaining sauce in an air-tight glass container for best results. The sauce will thicken in the refrigerator and may require re-heating to thin out.
Fudge Variation:
By omitting the coconut milk and modifying the amount of coconut oil, you can make a simple fudge from this recipe.
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup powdered sugar
4 heaping tablespoons virgin coconut oil
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Follow the directions above. The mixture will be thick. You can add nuts or dried fruit. Press into a small glass tray and refrigerate.
