Steel Cut Oats
Steel cut oats are filling and a good source of fiber. Here are two ways to prepare this delicious food, either for breakfast or any time of the day.
Organic & Fair-Trade Ingredients:
1 cup dry organic steel cut oats
Purified water to soak
3 cups purified water to cook
Cinnamon, nutmeg, sea salt to season
Stove Top Instructions:
Soak 1 cup of dry organic steel cut oats in enough water to cover with at least 1 inch of water above oats. Soak covered oats overnight.
The next morning, drain and rinse oats.
Add rinsed, soaked oats to pot. Add 3 cups of water and seasonings.
Bring water and oats to boil. Reduce and simmer for approximately 20 minutes.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 days.
Instant Pot Instructions:
Add steel cut oats to a small bowl and carefully rinse with purified water, continuing until water is clear.
Carefully drain oats. Add oats and fresh water to the Instant Pot. Secure the lid and ensure that the steam lever is set to “seal,” or you’ll have a huge mess on your hands.
Set the device to Pressure Cook for 4 minutes.
After the cook time has completed, allow the device to naturally reduce steam by waiting for at least 20-25 minutes on warm.
Add the seasoning at the end, stirring well. The oatmeal will thicken after it begins to cool.
The stove top method will yield about twice as much as Instant Pot cooking, but Instant Pot is a great alternative if you’re pressed for time.
Variations:
Serve with milk, fruit, or berries, if desired.
